What Is Fiberglass Batt Insulation
Pre-Cut Panels Sized to Fit Your
Attic Joists
Fiberglass batt insulation is made of pre-cut panels or rolls of spun glass fibers, sized to fit snugly between attic floor joists, wall studs, and ceiling
cavities. It’s the most widely used insulation type in American homes, and
one of the most affordable ways to improve a Las Vegas attic’s R-value.
In Las Vegas, where attics reach 150°F in July, most homes built before 2010 have R-19 or less, less than half of the R-38 to R-49 the DOE recommends for our climate. Fiberglass batt can bring an attic up to code in a single day, often at a lower upfront cost than blown-in insulation or spray foam.
We install unfaced, kraft-faced, and foil-faced batts, and we’ll tell you
honestly which type fits your attic, your existing insulation, and your
budget after a free inspection.
Las Vegas homes need more attic insulation than most places. Our free inspection checks your exact R-value and tells you what it will take, and the cost, to get there.

How It Works
From First Call to Finished Attic
Most fiberglass batt jobs go from free inspection to full installation in a single day. Here’s what that looks like.
3-5 hrs
Most 2,000 sq ft Las Vegas attics are fully done in 3-5 hours, start to finish.
01
Free Attic Inspection
We check your current R-value, look for air leaks, moisture, pests, and ventilation issues. About 30 minutes. No obligation, no pressure.
02
Honest Recommendation & Quote
We tell you exactly what your attic needs, fiberglass or cellulose, the right R-value, any removal needed. All-in price before anything starts.
03
Old Insulation Removed (If Needed)
If your current insulation is compressed, infested, or contaminated, we remove it cleanly before anything new goes in.
04
Air Sealing First
We seal gaps and penetrations before laying batts, since batt insulation alone doesn’t stop air leaks, this is what separates a good job from an average one.
05
Fiberglass Batt Installation
Our 2-person crew lays batts evenly to the target R-value, fitting each panel snugly between joists. A 2,000 sq ft attic typically takes 3 to 5 hours.
06
Walkthrough & Cleanup
We confirm even coverage and correct R-value, do a full cleanup, and walk you through the job before we leave.

What Actually Changes
Why Fiberglass Batt Insulation
What Makes Fiberglass Batt Insulation Worth It
Most Affordable Option
Fiberglass batt has the lowest material cost of any insulation type we install, making it the fastest way to bring an under-insulated attic up to code without a large upfront investment.
Cuts Energy Bills
Upgrading to R-38 to R-49 can cut cooling costs by 15-25%. Most Las Vegas homeowners save $60-$130 per month in peak summer with a properly installed batt upgrade.
Fire Resistant
Fiberglass is non-combustible by nature. It won't ignite, melt, or contribute to flame spread, an added layer of safety for attics that also house electrical wiring and HVAC equipment.
Doesn't Hold Moisture
Fiberglass is inorganic, so it doesn't absorb water or support mold growth. In Las Vegas's dry climate, this means minimal risk of moisture-related degradation over the insulation's lifespan.
Fast Installation
Pre-cut panels go in quickly once air sealing is complete. Most standard Las Vegas attics are fully insulated in a single day, often with the install happening the same day as the inspection.
Extends Your AC's Life
Less heat entering your home means your AC runs less. That can add 2-3 years to a system that costs $5,000-$12,000 to replace.
R-Value in Las Vegas
What R-Value Do You Actually Need in Las Vegas?
R-value measures how well insulation blocks heat. The higher the number, the better. In Las Vegas (Climate Zone 3B), the U.S. DOE recommends R-38 to R-49 for attics.
Standard fiberglass batts give you about R-2.9 to R-3.8 per inch, depending on thickness and density. To reach R-38, that typically means stacking a R-19 batt with a second unfaced layer on top, run perpendicular to the joists. Reaching R-49 usually calls for blown-in insulation or a thicker batt combination, which we’ll spec out during your inspection.
Most homes built before 2010 have R-19 or less. Our free inspection shows you the exact number and what it will cost to fix.
U.S. DOE recommends R-38 to R-49 for Las Vegas (Climate Zone 3B). Most pre-2010 homes have R-19 or less, less than half of what’s needed for our desert climate.
| Insulation Type | R-Value/in | Moisture |
|---|---|---|
| Fiberglass Batt | R-2.9-3.8 | No |
| Blown-In Cellulose | R-3.2-3.8 | No |
| Blown-In Fiberglass | R-2.2-2.7 | No |
| Closed-Cell Spray Foam | R-5.1-6.0 | ✓ Yes |
| Open-Cell Spray Foam | R-3.5-3.7 | Partial |

Fiberglass Batt Insulation FAQs
Is fiberglass batt insulation worth it in Las Vegas?
Yes, especially with air sealing. For homes under-insulated at R-19 or less, upgrading to R-38 or R-49 with fiberglass batt makes a real difference in comfort and energy bills. As the most affordable insulation type we install, it also has the shortest payback period, typically 12 to 24 months.
What's the difference between faced and unfaced fiberglass batts?
Faced batts have a kraft paper or foil vapor barrier on one side, while unfaced batts do not. In Las Vegas attics, unfaced batts are typically used when adding a layer on top of existing insulation. Faced batts are more common in walls and new construction. We’ll specify the right type during the inspection.
Can fiberglass batt be added over existing insulation?
In many cases, yes, if the existing insulation is clean and undamaged. We can lay new unfaced batts perpendicular to existing joists to increase R-value quickly. If old insulation is wet, compressed, or pest-infested, we remove it first.
Does fiberglass batt insulation settle or compress over time?
Fiberglass batts can compress if they’re walked on or if items are stored on top of them in the attic. Compression reduces R-value. We install batts to the correct depth and advise on attic access practices that protect the insulation long-term.
Does fiberglass batt seal air leaks?
No, fiberglass batt adds thermal resistance but doesn’t seal air gaps the way spray foam does. That’s why air sealing is always part of our installation process; we seal penetrations around pipes, wiring, and ducts before laying batts, which dramatically improves real-world performance.
Is fiberglass batt itchy or irritating to be around after installation?
Loose fibers can cause temporary skin or respiratory irritation during installation, which is why our crew wears proper protective gear. Once batts are installed and the attic is sealed off from your living space, there’s no ongoing exposure for your household.
How long does fiberglass batt insulation last?
Properly installed fiberglass batts can last 20 to 30+ years without significant degradation. In Las Vegas’s dry climate, there’s minimal moisture-related risk. The main threats are pest damage, physical compression, and water intrusion, all of which we check for during the inspection.
Should I choose fiberglass batt or blown-in for my Las Vegas attic?
Fiberglass batt is the most affordable choice and works well for standard, regularly-shaped attics. Blown-in insulation fills gaps and irregular spaces more thoroughly and reaches higher R-values faster. We offer both and will give you an honest recommendation based on your attic’s shape, your budget, and your goals.
