What Is Cellulose Insulation
Recycled Paper That Fills Every Gap in Your Attic
Cellulose is loose insulation made mostly from recycled paper, and it’s one of the two types of blown-in insulation we install, along with fiberglass insulation. We blow it into your attic through a hose. It fills every corner, crack, and gap. It gets around pipes, wires, and tight spots that other insulation misses. No gaps. No cold or hot spots.
Cellulose goes in thick and packs in tight. A thick, tight layer does a better job of stopping heat from coming through your ceiling. That matters most in Las Vegas, where attics hit 150°F in July.
It’s also treated so it won’t catch fire easily and so bugs stay away. More on that below.
Las Vegas homes need more attic insulation than most places. Our free inspection checks your exact R-value and tells you what it will take, and the cost, to get there.

How It Works
From First Call to Finished Attic
Looking for quick attic insulation near you? Most attic insulation jobs go from free inspection to full installation in a single day. Here’s what that looks like.
3-5 hrs
Most 2,000 sq ft Las Vegas attics are fully done in 3-5 hours, start to finish.
01
Free Attic Inspection
We check your R-value and look for leaks, moisture, bugs, and airflow issues. Cellulose needs a dry attic, so we rule out roof leaks first. About 30 minutes. No pressure.
02
Honest Recommendation & Quote
We tell you exactly what your attic needs, the right R-value, any removal needed. All-in price before anything starts.
03
Old Insulation Removed (If Needed)
Is your old insulation wet, damaged, or full of bugs? We take it out cleanly before the new cellulose goes in.
04
Air Sealing First
We seal the gaps and holes before we blow anything in. This step is what makes a good job better than an average one.
05
Cellulose Goes In
Our 2-person crew blows the cellulose in evenly. A 2,000 sq ft attic usually takes 3 to 5 hours.
06
Walkthrough & Cleanup
We check the coverage is even and the depth is right. Cellulose installs a bit dusty, so we clean up fully and walk you through the finished job before we leave.

What Actually Changes
Cellulose Insulation
What Makes Cellulose Insulation Worth It
Blocks Extreme Heat
A thick, tight layer of cellulose stops the 150°F attic heat from coming through your ceiling. Your living space stays cooler.
Cuts Energy Bills
Getting your attic to R-38 or R-49 can cut cooling costs by 15% to 30%. Most Las Vegas homeowners save $80 to $150 a month in summer.
Won't Catch Fire Easily
Cellulose has a Class A fire rating. It resists catching fire and helps slow fire down. That's a nice thing to have in a hot, dry place.
Keeps Bugs Away
Cellulose is treated with borate, a mineral that keeps pests away. Roaches, ants, and silverfish have no reason to nest in it
Resists Mold
The borate treatment helps stop mold from growing in your insulation. That's one less thing to worry about in your attic.
Good for the Planet
Cellulose is made from about 80% to 85% recycled paper. It's the most eco-friendly insulation you can buy.
R-Value in Las Vegas
What R-Value Do You Actually Need in Las Vegas?
R-value tells you how well insulation blocks heat. The higher the number, the better. In Las Vegas, the U.S. Department of Energy says your attic should have R-38 to R-49.
Cellulose gives you a lot of R-value per inch. It hits R-49 in about 13 to 14 inches. That’s less space than fiberglass needs. Handy if your attic is tight on room.
One thing to know: cellulose settles about 15% to 20% after it goes in. That’s normal. A good installer adds extra at the start so the final depth still hits your target. When we say R-49, we mean R-49 after it settles. Not sure cellulose is the right fit? During the free inspection we’ll figure out together which blown-in insulation type is right for your attic.
U.S. DOE recommends R-38 to R-49 for Las Vegas (Climate Zone 3B). Most pre-2010 homes have R-19 or less, less than half of what’s needed for our desert climate.
| Insulation Type | R-Value/in |
|---|---|
| Blown-In Cellulose | R-3.2-3.8 |
| Blown-In Fiberglass | R-2.2-2.7 |
| Closed-Cell Spray Foam | R-5.1-6.0 |
| Open-Cell Spray Foam | R-3.5-3.7 |
| Fiberglass Batt | R-2.9-3.8 |
Not sure what your home has now? We check your exact R-value during your free inspection and give you an honest recommendation, cellulose, fiberglass, or spray foam.

Cellulose Insulation FAQs
Is cellulose insulation worth it in Las Vegas homes and commercial buildings?
Yes, especially in our heat. If your attic is at R-19 or less, moving up to R-49 makes a real difference in comfort and cost. Most homeowners here save $80 to $150 a month in summer, and the upgrade usually pays for itself within 12 to 24 months. After that, you keep saving for the next 20-plus years.
What is cellulose insulation made of?
Cellulose is made mostly from recycled paper, usually old newspaper, about 80% to 85% of it. The rest is a mineral called borate, which makes it resist fire and keeps bugs away. That’s it, recycled paper plus a safe mineral.
Is cellulose insulation a fire risk since it's made from recycled paper?
No. Cellulose is treated with borate, a mineral that resists fire. This gives it a Class A rating, the top safety rating insulation can have. It doesn’t catch fire easily, and it actually helps slow flames down. So even though it starts as recycled paper, the finished product is safe in your attic.
Is cellulose insulation safe for my family?
Yes. Cellulose is non-toxic. It has no asbestos and no formaldehyde. Once it’s in your attic, it stays put and doesn’t release fumes into your home the way some other insulation can. The only time to take care is during install, when it’s a little dusty, so our crew wears protective gear and seals off the work area.
Does cellulose insulation attract bugs or rodents?
No. Cellulose is treated with borate, which pests avoid. Roaches, ants, and silverfish stay away from it, and there’s nothing in it for them to eat. It doesn’t draw in mice either. If your attic already has a pest problem, we take care of that before we put any new insulation in.
Does cellulose insulation have a moisture problem in a Las Vegas attic?
Cellulose can soak up water, so in wet or humid places it needs extra care. But Las Vegas air is very dry, so this is rarely an issue here. The one thing that matters is a roof leak, and we check for that during your free inspection. As long as your attic stays dry, cellulose holds up well for years.
How thick does cellulose insulation need to be for Las Vegas buildings?
For a Las Vegas attic, you want about 13 to 14 inches. That gets you to R-49, the level recommended for our climate. Cellulose reaches that in less depth than fiberglass because it blocks more heat per inch. We measure your attic and set the right depth during the free inspection.
Is cellulose insulation too heavy for my ceiling?
No, not at normal attic depths. Cellulose is heavier than fiberglass, but the weight is well within what a standard ceiling is built to hold. We check your ceiling frame during the inspection to be sure. For almost every Las Vegas home, it’s not something to worry about.
How long does cellulose insulation last?
No, not at normal attic depths. Cellulose is heavier than fiberglass, but the weight is well within what a standard ceiling is built to hold. We check your ceiling frame during the inspection to be sure. For almost every Las Vegas home, it’s not something to worry about.
When does cellulose insulation need to be replaced?
Most of the time you don’t replace it, you just add more on top. You’d only replace it in a few cases: if it got wet from a roof leak, if pests got into it and made a mess, or if it’s old and packed down flat. During your free inspection we tell you honestly whether yours can be topped up or should come out first.
How long does cellulose insulation smell?
Cellulose has very little smell to begin with. It’s just recycled paper and a mineral, so it doesn’t give off strong fumes. You might notice a faint paper or dusty smell for the first few days after install, then it fades. If you ever smell something musty later on, that usually means water got in, which is why we check your attic for leaks first.
How much does cellulose insulation cost?
Cellulose insulation cost depends on your attic, but most jobs run around $1,500 to $3,500. The price comes down to how big your attic is, what R-value you’re going for, and whether old insulation needs to come out first. The only way to get your real number is to look at your attic, which is why our inspection is free. We may also be able to lower your cost with the NV Energy rebate.
Where can I get cellulose insulation near me in Las Vegas?
We install cellulose attic insulation across the whole Las Vegas Valley, from Summerlin and Henderson to Spring Valley, Enterprise, and everywhere in Clark County. We offer a free inspection and often same-day install. Just call (702) 745-7890 and we’ll confirm we cover your area.
