What Is Blown-In Insulation

Loose-Fill That Fills Every Gap in Your Attic

Blown-in insulation, also called loose-fill, is installed with a hose that blows small particles of fibreglass or cellulose into your attic. It gets into every corner, crack, and around every pipe and wire. No gaps, no cold spots.

In Las Vegas, where attics reach 150°F in July, this matters more than anywhere. Most homes built before 2010 have R-19 or less, less than half of the R-38 to R-49 the DOE recommends for our climate. A blown-in upgrade fixes that in a single day.

We offer both fiberglass and cellulose, and we’ll tell you honestly which one fits your attic, your budget, and your goals after a free inspection.

Las Vegas homes need more attic insulation than most places. Our free inspection checks your exact R-value and tells you what it will take, and the cost, to get there.

Why Blown-In Insulation

What Makes Blown-In Insulation Worth It

Blocks Extreme Heat

A thick, even layer across your attic floor stops the 150°F Las Vegas heat from radiating through your ceiling into your living space.

Cuts Energy Bills

Upgrading to R-38–R-49 can cut cooling costs by 15–30%. Most Las Vegas homeowners save $80–$150 per month in peak summer.

Affordable Upgrade

One of the most cost-effective insulation options available. Strong performance per dollar with a payback period of 12–24 months.

Reduces Outside Noise

A thick insulation layer dampens sound from traffic and neighbors, especially useful in busy Las Vegas neighborhoods.

Cleaner Indoor Air

Paired with air sealing, blown-in insulation reduces dust, allergens, and smoke infiltration, important during Las Vegas's dusty seasons.

Extends Your AC's Life

Less heat entering your home means your AC runs less. That can add 2–3 years to a system that costs $5,000–$12,000 to replace.

R-Value in Las Vegas

What R-Value Do You Actually Need in Las Vegas?

R-value measures how well insulation blocks heat. The higher the number, the better. In Las Vegas (Climate Zone 3B), the U.S. DOE recommends R-38 to R-49 for attics.
Standard fiberglass batt insulation gives you R-2.9 to R-3.8 per inch. Blown-in fiberglass gives you R-2.2 to R-2.7 per inch. Blown-in cellulose gives R-3.2 to R-3.8 per inch. To hit R-49 with cellulose, you need about 13–14 inches, which is totally achievable in most Las Vegas attics.
Most homes built before 2010 have R-19 or less. Our free inspection shows you the exact number and what it will cost to fix.

U.S. DOE recommends R-38 to R-49 for Las Vegas (Climate Zone 3B). Most pre-2010 homes have R-19 or less, less than half of what’s needed for our desert climate.

Insulation Type R-Value/in Moisture
Blown-In Cellulose R-3.2-3.8 No
Blown-In Fiberglass R-2.2-2.7 No
Closed-Cell Spray Foam R-5.1-6.0 ✓ Yes
Open-Cell Spray Foam R-3.5-3.7 Partial
Fiberglass Batt R-2.9-3.8 No

Hear It From The People We’ve Worked With

Blown-In Insulation FAQs

Is blown-in insulation really worth it in Las Vegas?

Yes, especially with air sealing. For homes under-insulated at R-19 or less, upgrading to R-38 or R-49 makes a dramatic difference. Most homeowners see
payback within 12–24 months through energy savings alone.

Yes, if existing insulation is clean and undamaged. We blow new material on top to bring the total R-value to code. If it’s contaminated, wet, or pest-infested, we remove it first.

Not on its own. Blown-in adds thermal resistance but doesn’t seal gaps the way spray foam does. That’s why we always recommend pairing blown-in with targeted air sealing; it dramatically improves real-world performance.

Typically 20–30+ years. In Las Vegas’s dry climate, both fiberglass and cellulose perform well; there’s less risk of moisture degradation than in humid regions.

It can settle slightly over the first few years. We account for this by installing to a depth that exceeds the target R-value. Cellulose settles more than fiberglass;
both are normal and expected.

Cellulose is treated with a borate additive that resists mold, mildew, and pests like rodents and insects, while fiberglass is naturally inorganic and doesn’t support mold growth or attract pests at all. If your attic already has signs of pest damage, moisture stains, or active mold before we start, we address that first, since insulating over an existing problem just traps it. Our free inspection checks for all three before we recommend anything.

No. The blowing equipment stays in the attic and outside near the truck, with the hose running up through an access point like a vent or hatch, so there’s no insulation passing through your living space. We lay down protective coverings near the access point as a precaution and do a full cleanup before we leave, so your home looks the same as when we arrived.

Most jobs are scheduled and completed the same day as the inspection. Once we’ve checked your R-value and given you a price, our crew can typically start right then if you approve the work, and a standard 2,000 sq ft attic takes about 3 to 5 hours from start to finish.
